I am a sophomore Physics student at Caltech. I think about problems in high energy astrophysics, and cosmology, and I like approaching these questions with simulation based tools.

I am currently working on understanding how cosmic ray feedback shapes diffuse gamma-ray emission in galaxies with Isabel Sands and Prof. Phil Hopkins. Specifically, I ask whether Fermi bubble–like structures, which we see in Milky Way–mass galaxies (see Isabel’s recent paper here), still form in smaller, LMC-mass systems, and what that tells us about how cosmic rays and galactic feedback behave across different mass scales.

I was previously a 2025 SURF Fellow at Fermilab, where I worked with the CMS experiment on Higgs to μμ decay under the mentorship of Prof. Maria Spiropulu and her group there. I’ve also done research on Fast Radio Bursts using the Long Wavelength Array in New Mexico. You can see my CV for additional details, or email me at jxie2@caltech.edu.
